Neck Pain Q&A

Can a Neck Injury Cause Headache Pain?

Neck injuries may be indirectly responsible for various types of headache pain. Neck injuries often result in inflammation that puts pressure on the soft tissues of the neck, the nerves, and the spinal column. This pressure can lead to the bones being forced out of their original position, the nerves being pinched, and blood flow to and from the brain being diminished to the point that the brain begins to become fatigued. Chiropractic care and decompression therapy both work to relieve the pressure and restore proper balance to the neck, eliminating inflammation and re-establishing blood flow to the brain.

Can Stress Cause Neck Pain?

Stress and anxiety can cause many different health issues, including chronic headaches and neck pain. When a person is under stress, their muscles tighten. Holding the head in a specific position for long periods of time can add to the stress, causing extreme tension in the neck and shoulders. The longer a person remains under stress without relaxing, the tighter the muscles will become building tension and causing pain and discomfort to the area. Relaxation techniques, chiropractic adjustments, and myofascial trigger point therapy are just a few ways to relax the tissues and restore blood flow to the area. Re-establishing adequate blood flow may be enough to dramatically reduce many forms of neck pain.

What Therapies Work Well Together When it Comes to Treating Neck Injuries?

Many neck injuries respond well to chiropractic adjustments. Depending on what is causing the pain, there is a variety of treatment options that can be used in conjunction with one another to manage the pain and allow the neck to heal. Decompression therapy also works well with trigger point therapy and acupuncture to help create a positive healing environment. Stretching and exercises that are normally associated with physical therapy can also be used to increase blood flow and improve flexibility. Stretching can also increase range of motion, while at the same time strengthening the soft tissues in the neck.
