How Does Chiropractic Care Effect Headaches?

Chiropractic care offers many benefits for headache sufferers. Individuals who do not have the appropriate cervical curve may have headaches as a result. Without the appropriate curve to the cervical spine, the tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues can be put under tremendous pressure. Chiropractic adjustments and the use of stretching exercises can help to relieve the pressure and re-establish the appropriate degree of curve to the cervical spine. Combining chiropractic care with physical therapy can help effectively manage headache pain as well as reduce the risk of future headaches.

Is Decompression Therapy an Effective Treatment Option for Headaches?

Decompression therapy has proven to be an effective treatment option for many people who suffer from chronic headache pain. Decompression therapy uses traction to gently separate the vertebra of the spine. This reduces any unnecessary pressure that may be placed on the soft tissues, nerves, and connective tissues in the neck. This pressure can cause inflammation that leads to pain in the shoulders below or that radiates upwards into the head. By separating the bones and relieving the pressure, blood flow is restored and the brain can receive the amount of oxygen and nutrients it needs to function properly.

Can Headaches be Prevented?

Headaches can often be prevented if the patient uncovers the triggers that cause them. Individuals who are known to have migraines may have triggers that include bright lights, flashing lights, strong odors, loud noises, or extreme anxiety. Some people are allergic to certain additives and preservatives that are found in their foods. Artificial sweeteners can also cause recurring, debilitating headaches. Including additional magnesium in the diet may also help to relieve headache pain. Magnesium is needed to help with the uptake of calcium into the bloodstream. Individuals who are in a weight loss program may need to take a supplement to ensure they are getting the level of nutrition they need to avoid headaches and other health problems.
